I send my greetings and congratulations to the scholars attending this,
the first Mongolian language conference devoted to Mongolian history
and culture to be held in the United States.
As all Mongols know, Chinggis Khaan said that although his body would
die, his main hope was that his Mongol nation would live. His wish has
come true. Last year the world marked the 800^th anniversary of the
founding the Great Mongol State by Chinggis Khaan in 1206. Now his
Mongol nation enters the ninth century, and you are the ones who will
determine what happens in this century to the legacy of Chinggis Khaan.
During the last eight centuries, the history of the Mongol nation was
mostly written by foreigners first Chinese, Persians, and Russians,
later by French and German scholars, and now even by Americans. But no
foreigner can understand the history as personally and intimately as a
Mongol. As you meet in the first year of the ninth century of Mongol
statehood, I hope that you will begin to write the true history of the
Mongol people in the language of Chinggis Khaan himself.
May the Golden Light of the Eternal Blue Sky forever bless you who are
gathered here today, as well as your families and the Great Mongol
Nation of Chinggis Khaan.
