Huge dam project completed
Soldier-builders of the Korean People's Army have completed concrete tamping of the Ryongnim Dam, the most difficult and enormous work in the Huichon Power Station project, in some 700 days.
As a result, they have mostly finished the construction of the huge dam which would have taken more than ten years in a matter of two years, opening a bright prospect of finishing the power plant project in a short period.
Since they started the project in April Juche 98 (2009) the KPA units have kindled fierce flames of leap forward in the Ryongnim dam building site.
The soldiers paved a long road for the dam building in a short time by cutting the bedrock on a steep hillside, finished the cofferdam in a flash and completed the digging of the temporary waterway, which had been regarded to take over two years, three months after ground-breaking.
They pushed ahead with the excavation for the foundation even in rainy season to remove over 3 600 cubic metres of earth on a daily average while executing concrete placing at the same time.
They set up a prefabricated elements production base covering thousands of square metres to keep the production of them well ahead of construction and placed over 80 000 cubic metres of concrete every month to finish the huge workload of concrete tamping on the middle base of the dam.
The workload which had been regarded to take some years was brought to an end in five months and the temporary waterway and dam foundation projects were accomplished in 2009. The builders buckled down to damming.
Kim Jong Il inspected the construction site in September that year and named the speed of leap forward and world-startling labour innovations effected there uninterruptedly the Huichon speed, a new Chollima speed, and visited the construction site of the Huichon Power Station on four occasions in 2010 to encourage the KPA to take the lead in the campaign to build a thriving nation. He sent a message of special thanks to the soldier-builders.
The builders continued to make innovations to live up to the trust and expectation of the leader. They introduced efficient methods of concrete placing. While tamping concrete with rollers they excavated the bedrock on both sides of the dam.
They increased the production of concrete mixture and transport speed over three times by making an efficient use of equipment for screening gravels and sand, crushing and mixing and means of transport.
They poured mixtures with large cranes and transported them with dumpers and conveyer belts. Amid the hard-fought three-dimensional campaign to place concrete on the left, right and middle parts of the dam the soldiers tamped over 10 000 cubic metres of concrete a day at the maximum.
Thanks to their heroic struggle and patriotic enthusiasm, the concrete tamping of the Ryongnim Dam was finally fulfilled, thereby providing a sure guarantee for winding up the construction of the Huichon Power Station until 2012 that marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung.
